The viol is a perfect instrument to start playing music with. Even young children can hold at reble viol comfortably but finding a bow that is not too long and not too heavy is not easy. I am making these shorter bows, easy to handle and reasonably priced. The wood I use is called Cormier in French, Service wood in English, Sorbus domestica is the botanical name.
The length of the bow is 68 cm, playing length 57 cm, the weight is around 45 gr for a treble bow, 55 for a tenor bow and 65 for a bass viol bow. Different lengths and frog sizes are of course possible. The hair is black or white. Price 400 euros. How is that ?
